Mount warning Undulations is a pastel painting started en plein air in the shade of the Tweed regional gallery. It was a warm sunny afternoon and I had to work very quickly as the shadows rolled in across the hills. An amazing part of the country, The caldera region is so named because the town of Murwillumbah and surrounding areas are situated within the remnants of an anciet shield volcano. The afternoon shadows enhance the curves and undulations of the landscape and this painting is as much about the hills as it is about Mt Warning. The painting was finished off in the studio as the light and shadow I wanted to display does not last for very long at all.
